Mark 10:46-52 New International Version (NIV)
Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight
Don’t we all wish that our physical healing would be this simple, that when we shout out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” our physical problems would go away? The blind man told Jesus in the passage that he wanted to see and Jesus said, “your faith has healed you”. Immediately his sight was restored. Maybe the answer is that we all have the ability to heal this quickly, but it will not always be physical healing that is restored, but spiritual healing. God always wants us well, circumstances in this life sometimes make physical healing difficult, but never give up hope. The blind man Bartimaeus demonstrated his faith in Jesus when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth. Without any hesitation or doubt he immediately shouted “Jesus, Son of David…” Stating that Jesus was the Son of David was implying that he believed Jesus was the Messiah, the Lord and Savior of all people, which at this time in Jesus’ journey many were not convinced of this yet. Many who were accompanying Jesus tried to stop him, but the blind man shouted again, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Even those who were following Jesus, his own disciples, were being judgmental as demonstrated by their actions to avoid the blind beggar, “many rebuked him and told him to be quiet”. Most disappointing was that they lacked faith in Jesus' miraculous healing power. Conversion takes a lifetime sometimes, we are sinners who continually need mercy and continually need to be spiritually nourished with God's Word. This passage of the healing of the blind man Bartimaeus is a significant spiritual lesson. The importance is that Bartimaeus may have been blind in the physical sense, but not in the spiritual sense. The disciples were blind in the spiritual sense as they neither “saw” the mercy of Christ nor had faith in Him. Although Bartimaeus was healed physically, the ones who truly received their “sight” in this passage were the disciples themselves.
Repeat the Jesus prayer throughout your day, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” it will bring you peace and strength. 1Thessalonians 5:17 “pray continually”.
Mark 10:46-52
46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
