Isaiah 60:1-2 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”
The people of Jerusalem are called to rise up and shine because of God’s presence as so many were in the dark, and we still see that today. So many people do not realize that God’s presence is all around us, their spiritual blindness keeps them from the truth. Seek His presence in His Word, the Holy Bible and in other devout Christians. Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” We are being asked in this Isaiah scripture to be a light to others and this will allow God’s nature to shine through us. Even though darkness surrounds us, that is the spiritual darkness, the Lord’s presence is in us and around us and the Lord God’s spirit will give us the strength to overcome the darkness always.
As the prophet Isaiah says, the spiritual darkness will cover the earth and the people. Isaiah's prophetic words still hold true today. However, people will be drawn to those whose light shines brightly. So go forth and shine your light.
