Many Christians end their prayers with phrases like “in Jesus’ name” or “through Christ Jesus our Lord”. Prayer in Jesus’ name is taught in John 14:13-14, “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” Some misinterpret this verse, thinking that saying “in Jesus’ name” at the end of a prayer results in God always granting what is asked for. There are many reasons for unanswered prayer. It is not the words in the prayer that matter, but the purpose behind the prayer. Praying for things that are in agreement with God’s will is the essence of praying in Jesus’ name. In summary, using the phrase "in Jesus' name" at the end of your prayers is appropriate, but not necessary. Praying "in Jesus' name" can make one feel more connected to JESUS and for this reason it is good. The song by Hillsong, "What a Beautiful Name" is a powerful and beautiful song about a powerful and beautiful name...JESUS..
“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
VERSE 1:
You were the Word at the beginning
One with God the Lord Most High
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ
CHORUS 1:
What a beautiful Name it is
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a beautiful Name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
VERSE 2:
You didn’t want heaven without us
So Jesus You brought heaven down
My sin was great Your love was greater
What could separate us now
BRIDGE:
Death could not hold You
The veil tore before You
You silence the boast of sin and grave
The heavens are roaring
The praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again
You have no rival
You have no equal
Now and forever God You reign
Yours is the kingdom
Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name above all names
